Manganese for Lithium-Ion Batteries


Manganese is increasingly used in the manufacutring of lithium-ion batteries as one of the key components of cathodes used in batteries for small portable electronics such as mobile phones, notebooks, personal computers, tablets, and other various consumer electronic devices. Lithium-ion batteries also power larger device that require a higher amount of energy such as power tools, e-bikes, energy storage system, and green vehicles (from hybrids to full electrics).

Lithium manganese oxide (LMO) is one of the three cathodic materials technology that uses manganese. It is used in consumer electronics for portable applications such as mobile phones, camcorders, notebook pc's, and in automotive applications such as hybrids and full electric vehicles.

The cathode is the critical active component, directly impacting battery performance. To insure quality of the cathode, Prince Erachem provides the purest manganese salts for the Li-ion battery industry, with a broad range of high performance product.

MnSO4 HP

MnSO4 HP - Manganese Sulfate High Purity - is used for NMC and LMO cathode manufacturing.
ERACHEM provides the highest purity product for the Li-ion industry, and we benefit from a production facility reaching 10,000 tons capacity.
Supplied by our ERACHEM plant in Tertre (Belgium) with standard packaging of 25kg net weight multiply paper bags stowed on 1000kg net weight one-way wooden shrink; 500kg net weight multiply big bags stowed on 1000kg net weight one-way wooden shrink wrapped pallet; or 1000kg net weight big bags on pallet.

Mn3O4 LH

Mn3O4 LH - Manganous Manganic Oxide - is initially designed for the electronics industry, but has been highly recommended by several of our customers for LMO Cathode manufacturing. Indeed, it provides the specific amount of energy required by the cathode manufacturers supplying the Notebook PCs industry, mainly. Manufactured in Tertre, Belgium, we offer safety of supply to our customers with important installed production capacity.

Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) is the most promising cathode technology. According experts, it should be massively used for all applications (from consumer electronics to green vehicles) in the near future due to its high performance, safety, and calendar life. It is already used in numerous electric vehicles availble on the market.

Prince Erachem provides manganese salts, critical to the NMC cathode performance.

Lithium manganese iron phosphate (LMFP) is a technology mix, adding manganese to the already existing LFP cathode technology. The amount of manganese added improves the performance of the cathode as well as the energy density, which could make LMFP adapted to smaller applications than energy storage (which is currently the main use for LFP cathode materials).

MnCO3 UF

MnCO3 UF - Manganese Carbonate Ultra Fine - is designed to be the future's raw material for the promising but under development cathode material called LMFP. Lithium Manganese Iron Phosphate technology should be available soon, and is expected to be the best cathode technology in terms of performance and energy density. We already benefit, in Tertre, from installed production facility in order to serve our customers.
